About This Plant
Helleborus 'Wedding Party Dark and Handsome' (Hellebore), 'Wedding Party Dark and Handsome', is valued for seasonal interest and the role it plays in PNW garden borders.
Hellebores (Lenten Roses) are evergreen shade-garden perennials with leathery palmate leaves and exquisite cup-shaped flowers in white, pink, purple, green, or near-black from late winter through spring.
Part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 9. ALL PARTS TOXIC if ingested. Cut spent leaves in late winter to showcase flowers. Self-sows freely in happy gardens.
For a Pacific Northwest native perennial of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Tellima grandiflora (Fringecups), or Dicentra formosa (Pacific Bleeding Heart) , all support native pollinators.
