About This Plant
Hebe pimeleoides Quick Silver is valued for its garden character and seasonal interest in PNW landscapes.
Hebes are New Zealand evergreen shrubs prized for compact form, refined whorled foliage, and spike-form summer flowers in lavender, pink, white, or purple. Excellent coastal shrubs for the PNW.
Full sun to part sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained; tolerates lean conditions soil. Hardy USDA Zone 8 to 10. Plant in well-drained soil; avoid wet feet. Tolerates salt spray and wind. Some larger-leaved hebes are marginal in cold inland sites; smaller-leaved species are hardier.
For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
