About This Plant
Gerbera jamesonii 'Red Dark Eye' produces the classic Gerber daisy in a deep, saturated red with a contrasting dark center that gives each flower a bold, jewel-like focal point. The flowers are large, flat-faced, and held on strong stems above a rosette of deeply lobed leaves, creating a tidy mound of foliage with blooms that float above it from spring through fall.
Gerbera daisies thrive in part to full sun and reward consistent deadheading with continuous bloom production through the season. Keep the soil evenly moist but well-drained. When watering, direct water to the soil rather than overhead to reduce fungal pressure. Feed every two to three weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
The vivid red is a natural magnet for bees and butterflies, and the long-lasting flowers are outstanding for cutting.
