Care Notes
Evergreen fragrant shrub. Part shade to morning sun; protect from hot afternoon sun. ACIDIC well-drained soil essential (pH 5-6) — yellowing leaves indicate pH too high or iron/magnesium deficiency. Consistent moisture but never soggy. Feed with azalea/gardenia fertilizer in spring. MARGINAL in PNW — needs protected microclimate, south-facing wall, and winter mulch. Hardy cultivars (Frost Proof, Kleim's Hardy, Summer Snow) are best bets for PNW. Intensely fragrant white flowers — the classic Southern porch shrub. Watch for whitefly and sooty mold.
