About This Plant

Gardener's Hemlock Bark Mulch is a bagged hemlock bark mulch from Kellogg Garden Organics. It is made from the bark of western hemlock trees native to the Pacific Northwest and processed into a consistent, ready-to-use mulch. Hemlock bark is valued for its natural reddish-brown color, its tendency to knit together so it resists blowing and washing, and its slow decomposition rate compared to finer wood products.

Apply 2 to 3 inches deep over planting beds to suppress weed germination, lock in soil moisture, and buffer soil temperatures through both summer heat and winter cold. It works well around ornamental shrubs, established perennials, fruit trees, and along paths. Pull it back slightly from plant crowns and trunks before applying to keep bark contact off tender stems. As it breaks down over seasons, it contributes organic matter and a modest amount of acidity to the soil, which many Pacific Northwest plants appreciate.

Kellogg is part of a well-regarded family of garden brands available through independent nurseries in the Western US. We carry it as a bagged option for customers who want hemlock mulch in smaller quantities, without filling buckets from our bulk pile.
