About This Plant

Garden Valley Hemlock Mulch comes from Rexius in Eugene, Oregon, one of the Pacific Northwest's most established landscape material suppliers. It is made from western hemlock bark, a tree native to this region, processed and screened to produce a consistent, sliver-free mulch that lies flat and looks tidy in beds. Hemlock bark is naturally fibrous and breaks down slowly, which means it stays put through winter rains and does not need to be replaced as often as lighter wood chip products.

Spread it 2 to 3 inches deep around shrubs, perennials, and trees to suppress weeds, moderate soil temperature, and retain moisture through dry spells. Keep it pulled back a few inches from plant stems and tree trunks to prevent rot. As it decomposes over the years it adds organic matter back to the soil, improving structure for the long term.

Rexius sources and processes their bark regionally, so this mulch has not traveled far to reach our yard. For customers who want a clean, professional look in planting beds without reaching for a dyed product, hemlock bark is a reliable, locally rooted choice.
