About This Plant

G&B Organics Orchid Mix is a bark-based growing medium designed for epiphytic orchids and other tropical plants that need fast drainage and open airflow around their roots. The blend combines forest bark, bark fines, pumice, washed sand, earthworm castings, oyster shell, and dolomite limes as pH buffers. This open, chunky structure mimics the aerial root environment that phalaenopsis orchids, dendrobiums, and other epiphytes grow in naturally, allowing water to flow through quickly while still holding just enough moisture for roots between waterings.

Use it when potting or repotting orchids in terracotta or slotted nursery pots. Fill the pot loosely around the roots without packing, and water thoroughly when the mix has dried out almost completely. The bark breaks down slowly over time, so plan to repot every one to two years to keep the mix from becoming dense and compacted. This mix also works well for tropical bromeliads and other plants that prefer a similar fast-draining, airy medium.

We stock this for customers who want a ready-made orchid medium without having to source and blend bark, pumice, and perlite separately. It is straightforward and does the job well for most household orchid varieties.
