About This Plant

G&B Organics Seed Starter is an OMRI-Listed, certified organic seed-starting mix from Kellogg Garden Organics, formulated with peat moss, perlite, pumice, and washed sand. The blend is fine-textured and lightweight, providing the loose, well-aerated structure that seeds need for even germination and early root development. It holds moisture consistently without compacting or forming a surface crust, and the sterile base keeps damping-off pathogens and weed seeds out of the picture. It is certified organic by the Oregon State Department of Agriculture and distributed in the Western states.

Fill clean, shallow trays or cell packs with the mix and moisten it before sowing, as peat-based mixes absorb water more readily when pre-dampened. Sow seeds at the depth recommended on the seed packet, cover the tray with a humidity dome until germination, and remove the cover once sprouts emerge. Keep the mix consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once seedlings develop their first true leaves and are large enough to handle, move them into a standard potting mix in a larger container before transitioning outdoors.

Seed starting is one of the most cost-effective ways to grow a wide range of vegetables, herbs, and annuals. This is the organic-certified option for growers who want to stay consistent from seed to soil.
