About This Plant
Gardeners Steer Manure by Kellogg is a 100 percent composted steer manure with no added fillers. The material is finely screened and aged through composting, which breaks down raw manure into a stable, earthy amendment that is safe to use directly in the garden. The composting process renders the material weed-free and eliminates pathogens, making it suitable for vegetable gardens, flower beds, and ornamental plantings alike. Kellogg's Gardeners line has been a Pacific Northwest nursery staple for years, available through independent garden centers and farm stores.
Spread Steer Manure as a 1- to 2-inch layer over garden beds and work it into the top 2 to 3 inches of soil before planting. For established plantings, apply around the base of plants and water thoroughly to help it begin breaking down and feeding soil microbes. It covers approximately 24 square feet at 1-inch depth per 2-cubic-foot bag. As a topdress on lawns in fall, it provides a slow release of organic nitrogen through winter and into spring. The fine texture makes it easy to spread evenly without clumping.
Steer manure is one of the foundational soil-building tools in any garden. We carry Kellogg's Gardeners version because it is consistently processed, reliably weed-free, and priced accessibly for customers who need to amend large areas of ground without a major investment. It is a workhorse amendment that does exactly what it promises.
