About This Plant
Windchimes Dark Eyes is a trailing fuchsia grown for the sheer drama of its flowers. The blooms are fully double, with bright red sepals that flare back from a densely petaled corolla of deep violet-purple, a combination so bold and jewel-like that a single basket becomes a focal point from across a garden. The pendant flowers dangle on delicate stems exactly like chimes in a breeze, and hummingbirds find them irresistible. On the Oregon coast, this is one of the summer's most reliably spectacular hanging basket plants.
Like all trailing fuchsias, Windchimes Dark Eyes performs best in the cool, moist maritime climate of coastal Oregon, where it blooms from late spring all the way to first frost without the mid-season burnout common in hotter gardens. Hang it where it gets morning light and afternoon shade, or in a bright sheltered spot out of direct afternoon sun. The contrast between the red and purple flower parts is most vivid in cool temperatures, with colors intensifying as autumn approaches.
Water consistently and never let the root ball dry out completely.
