About This Plant
Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' is among the most visually unusual rubber plant cultivars available. The large, leathery leaves are patterned in a mottled, almost camouflage-like blend of sage green, lime, and cream, and no two leaves carry quite the same arrangement of color. New growth emerges with a rosy-pink blush that slowly settles into the muted, complex palette the plant is known for. It grows more slowly than solid-green rubber plants and tends to stay more compact, which makes it a better candidate for smaller spaces where you want significant visual impact without a plant that quickly outgrows its spot.
Because the variegated sections of the leaves contain less chlorophyll, Shivereana genuinely needs brighter light than standard rubber plants to maintain its coloring and grow at a reasonable pace. In good indirect light near a window, it performs well and holds the variegation clearly. The thick, glossy foliage is architectural without being stiff, and the plant develops real presence over time. If you're drawn to unusual foliage plants with staying power, this is one of the more distinctive options available in the houseplant world right now.
