About This Plant
Fatsia japonia 'Spider's Web' (Japanese Aralia), 'Spider', is valued for its garden character and seasonal interest in PNW landscapes.
Japanese Aralia (Fatsia japonica) , bold tropical-looking evergreen with huge glossy palmate leaves and dramatic globe-shaped fall flower clusters. Outstanding shade shrub.
Part shade to full shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 8 to 10. Marginally hardy in zone 8. Tolerates dry shade once established.
For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
