About This Plant
Fagus sylvatica (Weeping Weeping Beech), 'Weeping Weeping Beech' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
European Beech , stately long-lived shade tree with smooth gray bark, glossy leaves, and brilliant copper fall color held into winter. Many cultivars in copper-leaf, weeping, columnar, and cutleaf forms.
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 7. Avoid soil compaction over the root zone. Watch for beech bark disease (less common in PNW); generally trouble-free here.
For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
