About This Plant

Oregon Sunshine (Eriophyllum lanatum), also called Common Woolly Sunflower, is a Pacific Northwest native subshrub-perennial. A classic member of the coastal bluff, dry meadow, and open-woodland flora from British Columbia south through California. Cushions of silvery-gray woolly foliage are covered through early summer in quarter-sized golden-yellow daisies.

The long bloom season (May to August) and composite flower form make this one of the steadiest bee, bumblebee, native bee, butterfly, and hoverfly resources on the OR coast. Eriophyllum is a documented larval host for Northern Checkerspot butterfly and several other nymphalids.

Skagit peoples used Oregon Sunshine as a dermatological aid.

Coastal-friendly. Native on SW Oregon coastal headlands and bluffs. Handles salt spray, wind, and sandy soils beautifully.

Pairs with Achillea millefolium, Erysimum capitatum, Armeria maritima, and Fragaria chiloensis for a PNW coastal-bluff pollinator tapestry.
