About This Plant
Erica cinerea 'C.D. Eason' is a bright, buzzing presence from June through September, smothering itself in vivid magenta-pink bell-shaped flowers over a dense mat of dark green needle-like foliage. This compact shrub reaches about nine to twelve inches tall and spreads up to two feet wide, forming a tidy, weed-suppressing groundcover that earns its keep all summer long. It holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Like all bell heathers, it requires sharply drained, acidic soil and full sun. The Oregon coast's natural conditions tend to suit it well, and once established it tolerates dry spells with good grace. Trim lightly after flowering to keep growth dense.
The bees find this one impossible to resist. During peak bloom, a single plant hums with activity. It's a natural fit alongside Erica carnea for year-round coverage.
