About This Plant
Erica carnea 'Springwood White' is a winter and early spring standout on the Oregon coast, producing dense cascades of small urn-shaped white flowers from December through May, right when most of the garden is resting. This low, mat-forming evergreen spreads vigorously outward while staying low, making it one of the most practical and beautiful groundcovers for coastal Pacific Northwest conditions.
It thrives in the kind of acidic, well-drained soil that the southern Oregon coast delivers naturally, and it handles full sun exposure, salt air, and coastal winds without complaint. One of the hardiest heath species available.
Plant it along pathways, at the front of borders, or cascading over a low wall where the flowers can drift and glow through the grey days of late winter. Bees absolutely love it.
