About This Plant

Down To Earth Compressed Coconut Coir is a peat-free soil amendment from Down To Earth in Eugene, Oregon, a company that has been making natural and organic garden products since 1977. The product is a compact, dense brick of coconut coir fiber that expands significantly when hydrated, allowing you to add substantial organic fiber to your soil with minimal packaging waste. Coconut coir is the fibrous outer husk of the coconut and is valued as a sustainable, peat-free amendment that holds many times its weight in water while maintaining the open structure roots need to grow.

To use, break the compressed brick into smaller pieces and submerge in water for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until the material is fully expanded and separated. The hydrated coir blends easily into potting mixes, raised bed soil, or in-ground garden beds to improve aeration, drainage, and moisture retention all at once. It also works well as a compost starter, worm bin bedding, or lightweight filler in container mixes where you want to reduce overall weight while keeping moisture consistent.

Down To Earth is a long-trusted Eugene company, and the compressed format is a practical choice for customers who want the benefits of organic fiber amendment without hauling a bulky bag. If your application would otherwise call for peat moss, coir is the more sustainable alternative.
