Irish Heath (Daboecia cantabrica) , heath-family evergreen with urn-shaped flowers in pink, purple, or white from summer through fall. Similar care to Erica and Calluna.
Full sun to part sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained, acidic, lean soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 8. Plant high in acidic, sharply drained soil. Drought-tolerant once established.
For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
