About This Plant
Cyclamen persicum 'Elegante Dark Violet' (Florist's Cyclamen), 'Elegante Dark Violet', is valued in PNW gardens for its character and seasonal interest.
Hardy Cyclamen are diminutive shade-garden perennials with marbled heart-shaped leaves and reflexed pink or white flowers. C. coum blooms in late winter; C. hederifolium in fall.
Part shade to full shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 9. Tolerates dry shade once established. Self-sows gently.
For a Pacific Northwest native plant of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray), or Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape) , all support native pollinators and birds.
