About This Plant
Cupressocyparis leylandii 'Goldfern' (Leyland Cypress), 'Goldfern' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Leyland Cypress , fast-growing intergeneric hybrid evergreen widely used for screening and tall hedges. Reliable tall narrow form.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in adaptable, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 6 to 10. PNW WATCHPOINT: susceptible to Seiridium and Botryosphaeria cankers, especially in stressed or crowded plantings. Allow spacing; do not plant as solid hedge in narrow rows. Shorter-lived (30 to 50 yr).
For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
