Cigar Plants and related Cupheas are tropical evergreens with tubular flowers (often red and orange) that attract hummingbirds. In PNW, treated as summer annuals or container plants.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained, fertile soil. Hardy USDA Zone 9 to 11. Frost-tender; treat as a summer annual or overwinter under glass. Heat-loving.
For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
