About This Plant
Cornus florida Cloud Nine (Dog 15 tall 10 wide) is a Eastern Flowering Dogwood, a Eastern North America (NOT OR native; PNW native is C. nuttallii) ornamental.
Eastern N.A. understory tree with large white or pink bracts in spring before leaves. WATCH for dogwood anthracnose (Discula destructiva); use disease-resistant cultivars (Appalachian series). Site with morning sun + afternoon shade for best vigor.
Plant in part shade, in humus-rich, well-drained, slightly acidic; consistent moisture soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 9. Long-lived. Not strongly deer-resistant; protect young plants.
If you'd like a Pacific Northwest native tree with similar grace, consider Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood), Acer circinatum (Vine Maple), Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone), or Amelanchier alnifolia (Saskatoon). These provide bird food, pollinator support, and Indigenous food heritage in your landscape.
