About This Plant
Boulevard Olympia is a standout in Raymond Evison's compact Boulevard series, producing an exceptional abundance of rich blue-purple blooms from late spring all the way into autumn. Unlike many clematis that bloom in one concentrated flush, Olympia flowers continuously along its stems from the ground upward, creating a cascade of 4-6 inch single (and occasionally semi-double) blossoms with yellow anthers. It stays compact at 3-5 feet.
Olympia is rated for USDA zones 4-9, making it well-suited for the Oregon coast. It performs well in full sun to part shade, and benefits from afternoon shade in warmer inland locations. The long bloom period, from June well into November in mild seasons, makes it one of the most value-packed vines you can grow.
Olympia is a Group 3 clematis. Prune all stems back hard to 6 inches in late winter before buds break. Keep the root zone cool with mulch, water regularly, and provide a light balanced fertilizer in spring. Mildly toxic if ingested and the sap can irritate skin, so wear gloves when pruning.
