About This Plant

Boulevard Nubia is a compact patio clematis bred by clematis specialist Raymond Evison, part of his celebrated Boulevard series developed for smaller spaces and container gardening. Nubia produces some of the most striking red flowers in the clematis world: large, velvety blooms up to 6 inches across, with strong red tepals and a dark center. The plant stays tidy at 3-4 feet tall, making it perfect for pots, planters, trellised containers, or small garden beds.

In our zone 8 coastal climate, Nubia is a tough and reliable performer. It is rated for USDA zones 4-9. It blooms from early summer into early autumn, a long season for such a compact plant. Give it a sunny to part-sunny location with its roots shaded, ideally in a large container with a small trellis or obelisk.

Like all Boulevard series clematis, Nubia is a Group 3 pruner. Cut all stems back hard to 6 inches in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Provide well-drained soil, consistent moisture, and a cool root zone with mulch.
