About This Plant

Chitalpa tashkentensis Pink Da is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.

Chitalpa (× Chitalpa tashkentensis) , intergeneric hybrid of Chilopsis and Catalpa; tubular pink, lavender, or white summer flowers on a small ornamental tree. Tough drought-tolerant specimen.

Full sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained; drought-tolerant once established soil. Hardy USDA Zone 6 to 9. Watch for verticillium wilt and leaf scorch in stressed sites. Drought-tolerant once established.

For a Pacific Northwest native counterpart in scale and bloom, consider Amelanchier alnifolia (Saskatoon / Western Serviceberry) for white spring flowers and edible blue berries, or Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for show-stopping spring bracts in light shade.
