About This Plant
Chestnut Tree (Dragonfly Grown), 'Dragonfly Grown' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Chestnut , large nut-bearing tree, widely planted for edible nuts. American chestnut largely lost to blight; European, Chinese, and hybrid chestnuts are commonly grown today.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 8. Watch for chestnut blight (Cryphonectria parasitica) in susceptible varieties, choose resistant Chinese × American hybrids. Generally requires another chestnut for cross-pollination.
For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
