About This Plant
Few trailing houseplants have the same instant impact as Variegated String of Hearts. The small, perfectly heart-shaped leaves are dark green patterned with silver and pink, with rich purple undersides that flash whenever a breeze moves the vines. What sets the variegata apart from the species is the infusion of pink and cream into the foliage itself, an effect that strengthens with brighter light. Those delicate-looking wire-thin stems are surprisingly tough, and the vines can reach six feet or more over time, spilling beautifully from a hanging pot or high shelf.
Along the vines you'll notice small bead-like tubers forming, which is how the plant stores water and energy. This gives it a genuinely succulent character, meaning it handles a missed watering far better than most trailing plants. The flowers are small, tubular, and unusual, appearing periodically on established vines and adding another layer of quirk to an already distinctive plant. This is one of those houseplants that rewards a little neglect over fussing, making it a good fit for collectors and casual plant people alike.
