About This Plant
Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca Pendula' (Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar) is a True Cedar cultivar, 'Glauca Pendula', valued for its sculptural form and refined evergreen texture in the landscape.
True cedars (Cedrus) are long-lived Mediterranean and Himalayan conifers with sculptural tiered branching, aromatic blue-green needles, and an unmistakable architectural presence. Short stiff needles arranged in dense whorls on short spur shoots; classic blue-green to silver-blue foliage in many forms.
Full sun suits this species best. Plant in well-drained; drought tolerant once established soil. Hardy USDA Zone 6 to 9. Generally trouble-free in the PNW. Avoid wet feet and heavy clay; cedars prefer well-drained sites with full sun and low to moderate summer water once rooted.
For a Pacific Northwest native conifer of similar character, consider Pseudotsuga menziesii (Douglas Fir), the iconic PNW timber tree, or Tsuga heterophylla (Western Hemlock) for shaded sites. For coastal exposure, Picea sitchensis (Sitka Spruce) thrives where salt wind defeats most evergreens.
