About This Plant
Holy Guacamole is a creeping ceanothus with a personality as fun as its name and a performance record to back up the enthusiasm. This low, spreading California native groundcover grows just 18 to 30 inches tall but spreads generously to 5 feet or more, covering slopes, banks, and open garden areas with textured, dark evergreen foliage that stays attractive year-round. In spring, the plant produces a genuine spectacle: dense clusters of blue to blue-violet flowers blanket the spreading branches, attracting native bees, honeybees, and other pollinators in significant numbers.
Once established, creeping ceanothus is one of the most low-maintenance groundcovers available for gardens in the Pacific Northwest maritime climate. It is well adapted to the well-drained, coastal conditions of southern Oregon, tolerates drought once its roots are settled in, and requires minimal supplemental care.
Plant in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil, and avoid overwatering once established. Holy Guacamole is a smart, hard-working, and visually rewarding choice for anyone looking to establish a low-water, pollinator-friendly groundcover.
