About This Plant

Carnivorous plants are one of the most fascinating groups in the plant world, surviving in nutrient-poor environments by capturing and digesting insects and other small prey. Assorted carnivorous plant trays typically include a mix of species such as Venus flytraps (Dionaea muscipula), pitcher plants (Sarracenia or Nepenthes), sundews (Drosera), and butterworts (Pinguicula). Each has its own trap mechanism, but all share the same core care requirements: mineral-free water, nutrient-poor growing media, and bright light.

Never use tap water, well water, or bottled spring water on carnivorous plants. Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the growing medium consistently moist using a tray watering method. Grow in long-fiber sphagnum moss or a fertilizer-free peat and horticultural sand blend. Never fertilize through the soil.

Most assorted mixes include temperate species that benefit from a winter rest period with reduced light and cooler temperatures. Provide as much direct light as possible during the active growing season, ideally a south-facing windowsill or supplemental grow lighting for 12 to 14 hours per day.
