About This Plant
Chansonette is one of the most beloved sasanqua camellias in cultivation. The double, peony-like blooms are a warm lavender-pink with fluted, ruffled petals that give the flowers a delicate, almost tissue-paper quality. They appear in abundance from October through January, a season when almost nothing else in the garden is in active bloom.
The growth habit is notably different from upright japonica camellias. Chansonette spreads low and wide, reaching 3 feet tall but potentially 8 feet across, with a pendulous, weeping character that makes it excellent for banks, low walls, or large container plantings.
Sasanqua camellias are notably more sun tolerant and drought tolerant once established than their japonica cousins, making Chansonette a versatile choice for a range of garden positions on the Oregon coast.
