About This Plant
Marie Bracey is a camellia that stops people mid-step. The large, semi-double to peony-form blooms can reach 5 inches across and are a rich coral-pink with rose overtones, with layers of ruffled petals arranged around a central cluster of golden reproductive structures. The flowers bloom in late winter to early spring, precisely when the garden is most in need of color and drama.
The plant itself is compact and upright with a rounded to spreading habit and is clothed in the deep, glossy evergreen foliage that makes camellias valuable throughout the year. Camellias are naturally well suited to the cool, acidic, organically rich soils and mild winters of the Oregon coast.
Plant in a sheltered spot with protection from harsh afternoon sun to preserve the bloom color and longevity. Marie Bracey is a long-lived, low-maintenance shrub that becomes more beautiful with each passing year.
