About This Plant

Calathea concinna, known as the prayer plant, is a living reminder that houseplants can have personality. Each evening the long, elegant leaves fold upward as darkness falls, then open again in the morning, a daily ritual that makes the plant feel genuinely animate. The foliage is the real attraction: elongated leaves in soft, silvery medium green are striped with alternating bands of deeper green in a clean, feather-like pattern, and the undersides reveal a rich purple that flashes into view each evening as the leaves rise.

This is a houseplant that thrives on humidity, making it an ideal choice for bathrooms, kitchens, or any space where moisture is naturally higher. It prefers bright indirect light and consistent warmth. The leaves are sensitive to tap water minerals, so watering with filtered or room-temperature water tends to produce the best results.

Calathea concinna is also non-toxic to pets and children, making it a genuinely worry-free addition to households with curious animals or little ones.
