About This Plant
Wasabina is a Japanese heirloom mustard green that delivers genuine culinary excitement. The frilly, bright green leaves pack a wasabi-like zing that clears the sinuses in the best possible way, with a bold, tangy bite that mellows satisfyingly when cooked. Raw in a salad, it adds heat and texture. Stir-fried or lightly sauteed, the spice softens into something rich and savory. Pickled, it becomes a condiment worthy of its own spotlight.
The plants are beautiful in the garden, with their ruffled, serrated leaves forming lush, full rosettes in shades of bright apple green. They grow quickly and are productive over a long season, especially when harvested regularly as cut-and-come-again greens. Younger leaves are milder and work well raw. Let them size up for cooking.
Wasabina is a wonderful choice for kitchen gardens, raised beds, and containers. It performs especially well in cool seasons and handles the damp coastal climate with ease.
