About This Plant

Black Gold Moisture Supreme Container Mix is engineered specifically for containers that dry out fast, including hanging baskets, window boxes, and sun-baked patio pots. Its foundation is Canadian sphagnum peat moss combined with coconut coir, the fiber from coconut husks that absorbs many times its weight in water and releases moisture slowly back to roots. Compost, processed bark, earthworm castings, and horticultural perlite or pumice round out the structure. A controlled-release fertilizer feeds plants for up to six months, and the mix includes both a wetting agent and RESiLIENCE, Sun Gro's silicon additive that improves stem strength and helps plants recover from the inevitable dry spells between waterings. NPK is 0.10-0.06-0.13.

Fill hanging baskets, window boxes, or any container in a sunny, windy, or exposed spot where soil dries quickly. The coir content and wetting agent work together to keep moisture available to roots longer than a standard peat mix, which is a meaningful advantage here on the coast where summer baskets can swing between fog and sun. Water thoroughly at planting and check moisture levels regularly as plants fill in.

This is the mix we recommend when customers are fighting the constant battle of keeping containers watered through dry stretches. The moisture-holding coir makes a real difference.
