About This Plant
Betula pendula 'Youngii' (Young's Weeping Birch), 'Youngii' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
European White Birch , graceful weeping form, brilliant white bark, golden fall color. Cultivars include 'Youngii' (weeping) and 'Dalecarlica' (cutleaf).
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 2 to 7. PNW WATCHPOINT: highly susceptible to bronze birch borer in hot dry sites. Provide consistent moisture and consider more borer-resistant species in stressed locations.
For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
