About This Plant

Begonia odorata 'Pink Delight' is one of the few begonias that earns its name through scent as much as color. Large, fully double, soft-pink blooms emit a sweet fragrance throughout the season, while serrated, bright-green foliage sets off the flowers beautifully. The cascading, pendulous habit makes it a natural fit for hanging baskets and elevated containers on covered porches or patios.

Plant tubers in partial to full shade after the last frost, in rich, consistently moist, well-drained soil. On the Oregon coast, the mild, humid summers are nearly perfect for this begonia. Protect from drying winds and avoid waterlogging. Water at the base to reduce powdery mildew risk, and fertilize every three to four weeks with a balanced fertilizer for season-long flowering.

In zones 9 and warmer, tubers may overwinter in the ground with mulch. In Langlois, dig tubers after the first frost, allow them to dry, and store in a cool, dry location at 35 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit until spring. This begonia is toxic to cats and dogs, so keep it out of reach of curious pets.
