About This Plant
Azalea Encore Autumn Creation is valued for spring flower display, evergreen presence, and refined garden form.
Encore Azaleas are a modern series of repeat-blooming evergreen azaleas , flowering in spring, summer, and fall, with the heaviest display in fall. Compact, well-branched, and adapted to the southern garden but thriving in PNW coastal climates.
Part shade to dappled shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich, acidic (pH 4.5 to 6.0) soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 9. Plant high in acidic, well-drained soil; mulch lightly with pine fines. Site sheltered from hot afternoon sun. Watch for lacebug damage in too-sunny exposure (a common PNW issue), root weevil notching, and Phytophthora root rot in poorly drained sites.
The Pacific Northwest native azalea is Rhododendron occidentale (Western Azalea) , a fragrant deciduous PNW native of damp woodland edges with spectacular white-and-pink late-spring flowers.
