Full sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained, lean soil. Hardy USDA Zone 3 to 9. Sharp drainage essential. Drought-tolerant.

For a Pacific Northwest native perennial of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Tellima grandiflora (Fringecups), or Dicentra formosa (Pacific Bleeding Heart) , all support native pollinators.
