About This Plant

Archontopphoenix cunninghamian (King Palm), 'King Palm' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.

King Palm (Bangalow Palm) , Australian native, slender feathery palm grown as a conservatory or summer-patio specimen in the PNW. Frost-tender (hardy only to ~28°F briefly).

Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Hardy USDA Zone 9b to 11. Not winter-hardy outdoors in coastal southern Oregon; treat as a summer-patio container plant or conservatory specimen. Move under cover at first frost.

True palms are not native to the PNW; for a similarly bold evergreen specimen, consider Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) , sculptural reddish bark, glossy evergreen leaves, and a place of pride in southern Oregon's native flora.
