About This Plant
Arbutus unedo (Strawberry Tree), 'Strawberry Tree' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Strawberry Tree , Mediterranean evergreen with glossy leaves, white urn-shaped flowers and red strawberry-like fruit on the tree at the same time. A handsome small specimen for sunny well-drained sites.
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in well-drained, lean, slightly acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 7 to 9. Drought-tolerant once established. Avoid wet feet. Generally trouble-free.
The PNW native cousin is Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) , keystone southern Oregon coastal species with sculptural reddish bark and glossy evergreen leaves.
