About This Plant
Aquilegia 'Mrs. Scott Elliott' (Columbine), 'Mrs. Scott Elliott', is valued in PNW gardens for its character and seasonal interest.
Columbines have airy spurred flowers in many colors and delicate fern-like foliage. Western Red Columbine (A. formosa) is the PNW native species.
Part sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 3 to 8. Watch for leafminer. Self-sows gently.
For a Pacific Northwest native plant of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray), or Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape) , all support native pollinators and birds.
