About This Plant
Red anthurium is the classic form of the flamingo flower and remains one of the most reliably cheerful houseplants you can grow. The glossy, heart-shaped spathes in vivid scarlet red are what most people picture when they think of anthuriums, and the waxy blooms last up to six weeks each on the plant before fading. In good conditions, with bright indirect light and consistent warmth, the plant cycles through multiple bloom periods over the course of a year.
Anthuriums are easier to keep than their tropical appearance suggests. They want bright indirect light, temperatures consistently above 60 degrees F, and a fast-draining mix rather than standard potting soil. Water when the top inch of the mix feels dry, keep humidity above 50 percent, and avoid cold windowsills or drafts.
Red anthurium is a classic gift plant and a reliable long-term houseplant. All parts are toxic to pets and people if ingested.
