About This Plant

Rooikappie, which translates from Afrikaans as Red Riding Hood, is a compact South African aloe hybrid that blooms in repeated flushes through the year — spring, summer, fall, and often winter — with tall spikes of bright red-orange tubular flowers over a rosette of spotted green leaves. The repeat-blooming habit makes it unusual among aloes and a reliable hummingbird plant across multiple seasons. Compact at six to ten inches tall, clumping slowly. Hardy enough for Zone 9a with light winter protection. Container culture works beautifully, and gives you the flexibility to move it out of the worst winter rain.
