About This Plant

Frizzle Sizzle Plant is a small South African bulb that produces some of the most distinctive foliage in the houseplant world: narrow, bright green leaves that coil into tight corkscrews from the tips, creating a cheerful, whimsical mound of spirals. The curling intensifies in full sun and during the cooler months of active growth, from fall through spring. In late winter or early spring, mature bulbs send up stems of drooping, vanilla-scented yellow-green flowers that are a delightful bonus.

Albuca spiralis grows on a winter-active, summer-dormant cycle. During summer, the plant goes mostly dormant and needs very little water. As temperatures cool in fall, new growth emerges and regular watering resumes. This makes this an interesting houseplant choice that is at its best right when many indoor plants are resting.

Plant the bulb in fast-draining succulent or cactus mix with the top of the bulb at or just above soil level. Too much moisture causes bulb rot. Albuca spiralis contains compounds that can cause gastrointestinal upset in pets and humans if ingested.
