About This Plant

Agapanthus praecox 'Blue Bayou' (Lily of the Nile), 'Blue Bayou', is valued in PNW gardens for its character and seasonal interest.

Lily of the Nile. Strap-leaved perennial with blue or white flower umbels. Hardier modern cultivars survive PNW winters.

Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Hardy USDA Zone 6 to 11. Generally trouble-free. Divide every few years.

For a Pacific Northwest native plant of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray), or Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape) , all support native pollinators and birds.
