About This Plant

'New Vintage Violet' is a compact, well-behaved yarrow that solves one of the most common complaints about the genus: it stays tidy. Growing only 12 to 15 inches tall, it forms a low, dense clump of feathery foliage topped with upright clusters of rich violet-purple flowers. The color holds well through the season, and because this cultivar does not reseed itself the way common yarrow does, you get the garden performance without the spread-everywhere tendency of older varieties.

It performs best in full sun with good drainage and average to lean soil, and it handles heat and drought with ease once established. Like all millefolium yarrows it is deer resistant, and its long bloom season from late spring into summer brings steady pollinator traffic. 'New Vintage Violet' fits naturally into cottage gardens, low-water plantings, and mixed perennial borders where you want a front-to-middle anchor with reliable repeat color.

The compact scale also makes it a strong candidate for container work, giving a soft, textured look without needing constant cutting back. Flowers dry well and hold their color in arrangements.
