About This Plant
Acer tschonoskii Koreanum (But), 'But' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Tschonoski Maple is an uncommon small Asian maple with long-pointed lobes and striking red fall color.
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 7. Generally trouble-free; watch for verticillium wilt.
For a Pacific Northwest native counterpart in scale and bloom, consider Amelanchier alnifolia (Saskatoon / Western Serviceberry) for white spring flowers and edible blue berries, or Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for show-stopping spring bracts in light shade.
