About This Plant
Acer tataricum 'Mondy' (Red Rhapsody Maple), 'Mondy' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Tatarian / Amur Maple is a tough, cold-hardy small tree from central Asia, valued for brilliant red samaras in late summer and good fall color.
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in adaptable, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 3 to 8. Generally trouble-free; can self-sow. Watch for verticillium wilt.
For a Pacific Northwest native counterpart in scale and bloom, consider Amelanchier alnifolia (Saskatoon / Western Serviceberry) for white spring flowers and edible blue berries, or Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for show-stopping spring bracts in light shade.
