About This Plant
Acer sieboldianum 'Kumoi Nishiki' (Siebold Maple), 'Kumoi Nishiki' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Siebold Maple is closely allied to A. shirasawanum , refined small Japanese maple with rounded multi-lobed leaves and excellent fall color.
Part shade suits this species. Plant in humus-rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 7. Slow-growing; afternoon shade preserves leaf quality. Watch for pseudomonas tip dieback.
For a Pacific Northwest native counterpart in scale and bloom, consider Amelanchier alnifolia (Saskatoon / Western Serviceberry) for white spring flowers and edible blue berries, or Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for show-stopping spring bracts in light shade.
